“Hunger” Director Steve McQueen is a fashion icon

by

Daredevil: the artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen in a Yohji Yamamoto kilt.

The name recalls another anti-hero, but as the new T Men’s Fashion Spring 2009 issue reveals, the sartorially bold artist/filmmaker Steve McQueen is the real deal. McQueen’s eye-popping get-up — red suede shoes, an off-the-shoulder kaffiyeh and an ankle-length Yohji Yamamoto skirt — mirrors his work’s envelope-smashing aesthetic. We’re guessing he didn’t wear a motorcycle jacket to shoot his award-winning film about an I.R.A. prisoner’s hunger strike, but you still might mistake him for the new King of Cool.

From the NY Times.

Hunger plays NWFF April 10-16. Read Dennis Lim’s review here.

Thanks Susie for being aware of men’s fashion!
