This just in:
With great sadness the NDA Steering Committee had its final meeting this week. Many of our steering committee members recognize that they are over committed and no longer have the time and energy to maintain the NDA.
For four years, our mission has been to bring documentary filmmakers together in a vibrant community. Our signature event was DocFarm, which we held for three years in the summertime at Smoke Farm, a rustic and intimate country setting. There we presented seminars, screened documentary films, and gathered filmmakers from the NW region to connect, collaborate, and share works-in-progress.
Through DocFarm and other works-in-progress screenings, the NDA helped foster several successful films including “Corporal’s Diary” (Patricia Boiko & Laurel Spellman Smith), “Church on Dauphine Street” (Ann Hedreen & Rustin Thompson), “Beyond Greenaway” (Sue Gilbert), “Unlisted” (Delaney Ruston), “Duwamish River Transformed” (Patricia O’Brien) and others.
Even though the NDA is disbanding, the need for community and support in documentary filmmaking continues. We hope to see you at future events, such as DocuTalk at 911 Media Arts (www.911media.org), and events at the Northwest Film Forum (www.nwfilmforum.org).
There also are many other documentary events in the Northwest:
National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) (www.nffty.org)
Langston Hughes African American Film Festival (www.langstonblackfilmfest.org)
Irish Reels Film Festival (www.irishreels.org)
Women in Film – Seattle (www.womeninfilm-seattle.org)
Seattle International Documentary Film Festival (www.sidff.org)
American Indian Film Festival (www.aifisf.com)
Big Sky Documentary Film Festival (www.bigskyfilmfest.org)
International Documentary Challenge (www.documentarychallenge.org)
Thanks to all of you for your enthusiasm and wholehearted support. We hope to see you soon. Let’s stay in touch and continue to support one another, gathering around documentaries whenever we can!
Best wishes to you all,
The NDA Steering Committee
