Original 1969 review of “Le Gai Savoir”

This article is technically a repost, but when I went into the blog archive to try to link to it, it appeared the article graphic was no longer displaying. So enjoy this again, for the first time. The Le Gai Savoir review begins in the second column.

Le Gai Savoir plays NWFF August 14-20 as part of the year-long 69 series.

“The same [referring to an earlier comment that one did not have to be a cinephile to enjoy a movie] cannot be said of “Le Gai Savoir,” a fascinating, beautiful, irritating, truly apocalyptic film in which Godard illustrates, with image and sound, the collapse of the conventional movie, or at least the collapse of our conception of the conventional movie.”
