Meet Aaina: The South Asian Women’s Festival

Tasveer, “picture” in Hindi/Urdu, is a Seattle-based grassroots community organization that is committed to bringing independent progressive South Asian films and artists to the Pacific Northwest. Aaina, “mirror” in Hindi/Urdu, is the South Asian Women’s Festival, focusing on and celebrating the artistic and activist work of South Asian women through performance and visual art, films, workshops, and conversations that are aimed at highlighting issues critical to the empowerment of South Asian women.  Aaina’s spotlight event, Yoni Ki Baat (inspired by The Vagina Monologues), is a collection of authentic, bold, and powerful stories that are sourced, written, and narrated by local South Asian women.

The 6th Aaina will be held at the Seattle Asian Art Museum, March 25-27, 2011.
Aaina is produced by Tasveer in collaboration with the Gardner Center for Asian Arts & Ideas.
